Today… We Flew.

We came to Canada to fly, and today we did just that. We decided we wanted to zipline on this trip months ago, and that is the reason we ended up in Whistler in the first place. Superfly Ziplines seemed to have the best views for the best price, and tripadvisor highly recommended them so we knew they were safe.  The weather is clear and sunny (a bit hot really)… perfect day for ziplining, right? Wrong… there are uncontained forest fires all over Canada. Fire = smoke. The entire town of Whistler is filled with smoke.  You will see in the pictures below just how thick the air is… air quality is at a 10+ which is the worst air Canada can have.

Regardless, we paid to zipline and zipline we did. The first line was the scariest for three reasons: 1. I’ve never done it before, so I had anxiety starting out. 2. You couldn’t see farther than 100 feet in front of you because of the smoke. 3. We (err Kevin) volunteered us to go first in our group!  Flying into a complete white abyss was so eery, like a horror movie, but boy was it fun! After the first line, visibility slowly started to increase, not great, but we started to be able to see the trees below us rather than just white and white and white. By the last line, we could see pretty well however this was the shortest of them all.  I think we are both on board with flying again, very very soon. Very fun!

The rest of the day we spent hanging out around Whistler Village which is a huge resort area with shop after shop with food and sporting equipment and jewelry, etc etc.  The tourist attraction other than the shopping is the Olympic Plaza – the Medal Stand and the rings from the 2010 Winter Olympics based in Vancouver.  So of course we had to at least check it out. Heading in that direction we stumbled across Cow’s. Seriously good ice cream!

Tomorrow is a day with no plan, so who knows what mischief we will get into… maybe we’ll fly again 🙂

Olympic Plaza – Olympic Rings

Ice cream, of course. I had two scoops of Chocolate Cheesecake (Chocolate ice cream, cheese cake pieces, chocolate chunks, and fudge ribbons). Ahmagah! Kevin had a scoop of Oreo Mint and a scoop of Chocolate Cheesecake. We will be returning before we leave Whistler!

And a video montage of our flying. The music seemed fitting =)
