Puerto Vallarta Recap

Our Mexico trip seemed to fly by and sadly I didn’t blog in the moment, but I wanted to give a trip recap while the events are still semi-fresh.

Day 2: Tuesday was definitely a relaxing day with beach time and pool time.  We had our first encounter with the huge iguanas and the infamous turtles!  Anxiety was building with the possibility of releasing the little guys into the ocean in the days to come.

Day 3: Wednesday was one of the most memorable days for us as a group…. we were anticipating the baby turtle release AND we swam with the dolphins. I was so proud of my mamacita who cannot swim and is overall uncomfortable in the water. She did great hanging out with the dolphins and even taking a ride on a fin.  After this, we headed down to the ocean to release the baby turtles!  Sadly there are new environmental laws that don’t allow us to actually hold the baby turtles 🙁 Instead we just sat there and took pictures of the little guys while they raced to the water.

Day 4: Thursday turned into a bit of an adventure. It was time Mom and Steve experienced a bit more culture away from the gorgeous resort, so we headed into the city…Rio Cuale to be exact.  This is a huge market on a little island in the middle of the river “Cuale”. Sooo many trinket-y touristy stalls, but it was well worth the experience.  On one of the corners we stumbled upon a beautiful mural being painted by a young lady… mom was entranced, so I fed her some Spanish so she could compliment the artist.  The day ended with the most beautiful sunset at the beach.

Day 5: Friday consisted of mani/pedis, more beach time and a little bit of relaxing.  Steve and Kevin were like little kids playing in the ocean jumping into the waves.  The afternoon came and we went our separate ways… Kevin and I had our eye on a hike around the resort with the reward of eating at Sweet Paris for crepes and Belgium waffles. So delicious!

Day 6: Saturday was our last day in paradise. We had one more meal ticket for breakfast, and we took full advantage of it.  I had befriended one of the chefs early on in the week and asked him to make me a turtle shaped pancake for mom as a parting gift. It turned out so cute!  We headed to the beach to see the water one last time and then reluctantly headed to the airport.

All in all, it was a great trip.  I definitely exercised my Spanish skills on this trip which was wonderful, and we were able to spend some much needed quality time with my mamacita and her new husband =)
