Exploring Portland

We visit Oregon every couple of years, but we never seem to ever spend any time in Portland. So this trip we dedicated an entire day to experience just Portland. We arrived in Portland right at lunch time, so we went searching for one specific food truck that I’ve been waiting months to try. The Grilled Cheese Grill! And boy was it worth the wait. Kevin ordered “The Cheesus” which is their famous sandwich. This thing was no joke… a grilled cheese sandwich on top with a hamburger and all the fixin’s in the middle with another grilled cheese sandwich on the bottom.  He ate ever single bite… I was so impressed. I ordered a more traditional sandwich called “The Gabby”… this had Tillamook Cheddar, Swiss, Mozzarella and Colby Jack Cheese plus bacon. Absolutely divine. I need to step up my grilled cheese sandwiches now, because we will never be able to go back to regular wheat bread with kraft singles again!

Next we scouted out the infamous Powell’s City of Books. This is truly where my heart lives, and I’m ready to pack up to move to Portland just so I can hang out in this store every.single.day.  A whole city block four floors high — rows and rows and rows and rows of books. And the place was packed, which really made me happy to see. Not many people are still buying real books, but this place was swarmed with people.

We finished up our time in Portland at Washington Park which we explored both the Japanese Garden and the Rose Garden. Neither of us are huge fans of roses, but the park was very pretty and smelled lovely. The Japanese Garden was very cool though and very unique. On a slow, non holiday weekend I’m sure it can be a very serene and peaceful place to hang out. It was pretty packed with people this weekend though, so it was mostly us trying to get around other people and waiting our turn to take a picture of some landscape.

We’ve now arrived at my Grandma’s house where we will spend the next two days hanging out. Tomorrow we will be going on a bit of an adventure however, so hopefully many great pictures.

Now to the good stuff…

The Grilled Cheese Grill spread… so so so good!
