Day 1: Finally Here

We have had quite an eventful last two days.  First off I want to made the announcement that I have been awake since 5:30am Tuesday morning…so with this being 8pm Wednesday night, I probably won’t make much sense at all, but I am going to try nonetheless.

Tuesday night started out pretty uneventful.  We drove to the airport leaving home at midnight, and arriving a little after 3am.  We didn’t get lost once.  We parked in the long term parking at the airport and took the bus and metro to the actual airport.

Checking in was easy once we figured out what line we needed to be in.  FYI for all future international traveling…even if you have  layover in the states, you MUST BEGIN in the international line regardless.  We had a little old Chinese woman at the airport straighten us out about that haha.

Security wasn’t bad either.  We made good time with check in so we stood in line maybe 20minutes for security.  Right from the start there was only one line since it was so early in the morning, and every one of them were required to go through the whole body scanners.  You know…the ones that whoever is watching can virtually see you totally nude.  Yeah, so that was gonna be awesome.

Luckily, by the time we got up there they had shut down those machines.  We were about three people away from the front of the line when a second line opened…and man I have never seen people act more like animals.  There were two men in particular who were flying business class platinum.  You know…the guys who get to cut in line even if they show up five hours after everyone else.  Well anyways, they opened the second line and these men threw elbows to get in front of that line.  I would have thought men who were flying business class, would have more class than that.  But they definitely did not.  They ran into each other and other passengers just to get through security five minutes before everyone else.  Funny ending to this story is, this man made an absolute idiot of himself to get through security for virtually no time saved.  Kevin and I ate McDonald’s for breakfast at the airport, and after we had sat down with our food, we see this man getting in line for Starbucks coffee.  So even though he busted his butt to beat us through security, he didn’t save any time at all given the fact that Kevin and I beat him to breakfast.

Our layover in Miami ended up being almost five hours instead of two like it was supposed to be.  So we just sat and twiddled our thumbs wishing we could just sleep those five hours instead of wait on the dumb plane to come.  Finally our plane arrived and it was smooth sailing from there…until the pilot decided to abort his landing and take us back into the sky at full speed.  We were staring at the airport and then it just got smaller and smaller and smaller.  We still do not know why he aborted the landing, but I’m sure it was for a good reason…  Regardless, the sudden super speed straight up into the air scared THE CRAP OUT OF ME!  I literally saw my life flash before my eyes.

But we landed, and we lived.  So all is good in the world.  I officially have one stamp in my passport!

P.S. Grandpa’s neighborhood and house are b-e-a-utiful!  I will be exploring more tomorrow morning and taking lots of pictures.  Hopefully we will go walking around the neighborhood exploring tomorrow.  We need to relax tomorrow though too, missing one whole night of sleep is gonna do some wear and tear on my body for sure.

Proof of the no sleep…this is Kevin and I right before I sat down to write this post.  Awake for 36 hours or so…So with that I must sign off and get some sleep!
