Canoeing, Kayaking, Hiking, oh my.

Today was a bit of a lazy day which was nice. No set alarm waking up at 9:30 which was even nicer.  The lodge we are staying at has a bunch of really nice amenities that we figured we should take advantage of, so after breakfast we headed out to the lake to do some canoeing. I haven’t been in a canoe in a LOT of years, and I was definitely nervous to jump in one again. We paddled on the lake for about an hour.. which was plenty.. I was tired! And hungry! Time to shuttle into the village for lunch (Mongolie Grill = yummmmmm!) and you guessed it, ice cream again. I am going to miss that chocolate cheesecake waffle cone when we leave.

Quick shuttle back to the lodge, and we were back on the lake… this time on kayaks. I’ve never been on a kayak, so that was a learning experience. However after spending time in the canoe, I at least had some comfort in the water. I liked that I sat down on the bottom instead of a seat (I asked Kevin if I could sit on the bottom of the canoe and he said I could if I wanted it to tip.. uhhh no thanks), but it was pretty unsteady which gave me a little anxiety about flipping. Kevin’s kayak was less steady than mine, but we had no flipping thankfully. Next on the agenda? Yep… hiking. We hiked around the lake and then headed back to a peaceful dinner on our balcony.

The day started out great with the smoke being very light, but as the day progressed it has gotten worse. However the air quality dropped to a 7 which is an improvement over the last few days. It’s kind of funny, because when you look at the weather… instead of them saying it will be sunny all day, they say it will be smokey all day. And they aren’t kidding!  Although the locals have said they haven’t had this bad of smoke in Whistler in a really, really long time, but surprisingly sitting at dinner, we could see a mountain top. A first for this trip.

Well enough words, more pictures =)

Seriously good Mongolian food!

Canoeing… I was not quite comfortable yet with this idea…

Kayaking… a little better now =)
