Cancun for free?

A little over a year ago, my husband’s company started a new incentive program. Basically every quarter everyone votes for the people that they think worked the hardest, did the most for the company, helped out the most, etc.  The top three employees are then given an all expenses paid trip to some undisclosed location at the time. Well the day came and Kevin comes home and says…. “Wanna go to Cancun?!”.  I’m so glad all of his hard work was noticed by his peers – the highest way to be recognized imho!

Fast forward four months and we were off to Secrets Resort in Playa Mujeres, Mexico – just outside of Cancun all by itself.  It was definitely an interesting experience vacationing with other people, since we typically are loners when it comes to big trips.  Plus they were all of Kevin’s coworkers which made it a bit less relaxed, but who can complain about an all expenses paid trip to an adults only resort in Mexico? You really can’t…

I luckily connected with one of the other wives and while the husbands were playing volleyball and swimming around, we sat in the shade, poolside – reading and chatting about Harry Potter (what else would I possibly talk about?).

The trip included one day of adventure – however the adventure was deep sea fishing and with both Kevin and I prone to motion sickness, we politely passed and hit up the spa instead. I had a lovely Swedish massage and Kevin had a dip in the fish spa.

Really this was the entire four day weekend… reading, being lazy, and eating. The food was hit and miss, but not terrible and having waitresses poolside waiting on us hand and foot wasn’t terrible either!  I also discovered my love of guacamole.  I know, I know … how cliche to discover guacamole in Mexico … but seriously, so good! I’ve always been a bit green adverse when it comes to food, so it surprised even me that I loved it so much.

Well pictures are always worth more than words, so here is the trip in a nutshell =)
