Back to the Mainland

Today was a long driving day to get us back on the mainland. Perfect weather however we would have preferred the rain today as opposed to tomorrow. Anti-rain dance everyone!

We managed to sneak in a few cool sites along the way:

Eilean Donan Castle (the castle from Made of Honor, also one of the most photographed castles in Scotland)

– Urquhart Castle
– Loch Ness (just the loch, not the monster)
– Elgin Cathedral
– Spynie Palace
– Duffus Castle

The last three were definitely very cool to go through. All three ruins, but all very well maintained. I’m always really drawn to the Cathedrals/Friaries/Abbeys, because they are so ornate and beautiful. You can close your eyes and just picture it at its prime. Elgin Cathedral was no different. Biggest one we’ve seen so far, and just absolutely gorgeous.

Duffus Castle was fun because we got to climb all over the ruins. Kevin was excited about that, however his allergies have attacked him today and left the climbing to me mostly.

We checked into our B&B for the evening… what an eccentric place! The hosts are very nice, and the property is very pretty. Not as well manicured as most of the others but tons of land. We walked around a bit and met all of the wildlife – chickens and a very obnoxious, squaking goose. He literally chased us out of his “area”, yelling at us and running towards us.   The property doubles as an antique shop as well. One that our mommas would love very much…sorry, our bags have weight limits, we can’t bring back wagon wheels =)

Oh yeah, I’m famous still. The B&B we checked out of and the B&B we check in to made mention of my famous name. I feel bad that I keep disappointing everyone, however we keep getting the best rooms so I’m not complaining!

Highlight of the day, you ask? Burger King for dinner! It’s the little things in life.

Inside the tower at Elgin Cathedral. There was only one part really intact which was obviously renovated for tourists. We were headed up to the top of the tower to look outside.

The ceiling in the Chapter House at the Elgin Cathedral. The architecture is just amazing.

The ruins of Duffus Castle. You can still walk through inside and climb whatever you want.
