Fieldtrip to ENGLAND!

To keep myself sane, and my journal organized, this is today’s post and the previous post is meant for yesterday’s adventures….

Today was a slow start as we were still dragging from the Tattoo yesterday, but we managed to make it to Alnwick Castle by noon which just so happens to be in ENGLAND. That means we visited three different countries this trip!  It was a gorgeous castle, but also a very peculiar castle. It has been the residence of the Percy family for over 700 years, and they do still reside there. You could tour certain parts of the castle when the family wasn’t home, and it turned out today was our lucky day…sort of?? On one hand, we were able to see how the other half lives, but on the other hand, the whole tour was basically the family bragging about all the junk they have. For instance, there were rooms about the Duke’s oldest daughter’s fairy tale wedding in 2011. Absolutely adorable wedding with the flower girls dressed up as fairies and the page boys dressed as elves/Peter Pan. Kevin looked up who these people even are when we got home today, and the daughter is already divorced. Yet the displays are still there looking like they live this fairy tale life still. I can’t even imagine how much it cost and then for it to already fall apart within two years. Just shows that marriage/weddings aren’t all about material things, and life is more important than who you can impress with all of your stuff.

Anyways, we walked through the castle, castle grounds, treehouse and castle gardens, and we spent about five hours there exploring, watching jesters, buying trinkets. Like I said, it was gorgeous, but it was not the main reason we drove two hours to this castle.

It also just so happens to be where Harry Potter learned to fly his broom…aka this was a film location.  AKA I had flying lessons in the same place as the characters of HP. NBD. =)

As always, pictures mean way more than words so here you go…

The jesters performing a fire juggling trick with a volunteer. His eyes were closed the whole time lol

Just flying on our broomstick. No big deal. Naturally I have great flying form…

After our lessons… sooo much fun! I’m officially an Alumni now =)
