Yesterday was an extremely long day, so journaling was just not an option when we arrived at our lodge last night. We departed Grandma’s house about 6:30am and were constantly on the go until 10:30 last night arriving in CANADA!
The big pit stop along the way was Mt St Helens, of course. Kevin has been obsessed with seeing the volcano ever since I’ve known him, so I’m sure he’s been obsessed since birth. It did after all blow up to warn the world he was coming… So we splurged and rode a helicopter into the crater. I mean… we were 10,000 feet in the air above the crater and we could see the steam coming out of some of the channels. So so so cool! The temperature dropped significantly when we hit that altitude, so our toes were frozen since the helicopters windows were open when we were flying. Kind of an eery ride, but very memorable. We spent a couple of hours walking around the different visitor centers and shooting some pictures, but really after the helicopter ride, the view from the ground is puny.
We then spent the rest of the evening driving to the border. Border check was surprisingly easy with just the ranger looking at our passports and asking us some random questions to make sure we didn’t sound nervous. I guess we passed because onward we went. The drive up to our lodge was very winding, with a lot of elevation changes that our poor little Accent struggled to handle. But we arrived safe and sound and holy cow is our place nice! This is probably the nicest place we have ever stayed in, in all our travels. It is a ski lodge in the off season during the week which means we got a killer deal on the room. Never did we dream we would get this much room for the little amount of money we spent.
That about sums up yesterday, and Kevin is willing me to finish this so we can walk back out the door for today’s adventures. Until tonight!
I had one happy boy yesterday!
He takes SUCH great pictures!
Our HUGE ROOM! This isn’t even half of it!
