Day 3 — Have you ever met a monkey?

We had a bit of a late start today as we were quite exhausted from our very, very long day yesterday, but we had plenty to keep us busy.  To start the day off right, Miss Graceful fell on her butt walking down the stairs of our hotel, and ended up as a turtle on my back with my backpack on. I think on the outside Kevin was watching in horror while on the inside laughing at me. With my pride (and butt) bruised, we proceeded on our way.

Heading through Germany, we drove on the Autobahn…. fast.  For those that don’t know the Autobahn is the interstate system in Germany with large parts having no speed limit.  Pretty fun to just drive the speed you want to drive, and watching a Mercedes flying by us.

We were driving fast for good reason — today was the day we spent in France!  France turned out to be an awesome adventure with the first stop being La Montagne des Signes. The Mountain of Monkeys!  This was definitely one of the items on our trip that I could not wait to do, and boy was it worth it. Basically you drive to the top of a mountain, walk through a forest with popcorn and feed the monkeys. So fun!

Next stop was Colmar, France — one of the accidental surprises of the trip so far.  Fun fact about Colmar: The sculptor of the Statue of Liberty was born here, and in his honor, they have a mini Statue of Liberty.  This is a random town in France, but it turned out to be the quintessential, picturesque town you want a town in France to look like every time. Plus an annual festival was in full swing when we arrived which made it that much more fun. Local entertainers including dancers and musicians were performing, vendors were selling all through the evening and so much food! We ended up eating at the Creperie, because when in France, you eat food from a Creperie. Kevin had a potato and ham crepe, and I had a bacon quiche… you know…. French food.

Tomorrow is another day full of driving since France was a little out of way, but seriously… monkeys! However, tomorrow we will find our resting area for a couple of days allowing us to enjoy the city and surrounding area back in Germany which also means we get to drive on the Autobahn again… maybe this time Kevin will let me drive =)
