Day 12 – We Found the Sea

Today we traveled from Rome to Riomaggiore which is one of the five towns that make up Cinque Terre (chink-kay tare-eh) which is located right on the Mediterranean Sea.  The train ride up was quite uneventful other than the two little girls that sat next to us – they were probably 11 and 7 and boy did they have energy. I don’t think either of them breathed between words except when the older one decided to throw up… twice. You may not know but that is pretty much the number one reason why I can never have a child of my own – I cannot handle throw up. I am a sympathy heaver, and so the rest of the train ride was quite unpleasant.

Once we arrived in Riomaggiore, the son of the B&B proprietor met us at the train station – he is 16, dark hair and thin (this was how the owner described him to us lol). He was very nice and had pretty good English, so he showed us up to our room. And boy do we have a room! The view is phenomenal. I could sit at the window all day and be happy, and the apartment is quite big. It has a fully kitchen and washing machine which we’ve taken full advantage of today.

We explored the town a bit this afternoon, but have mostly taken the day off. I needed to do some laundry and the heat has just wore us out. So we bought some bread and had pb&j + Wine and Lemonadi for dinner, and watched some Italian tv.

Tomorrow we hope to hike some of the infamous trails to see the other four towns.
